Supreme Court announces new Law Librarian Clara Watson Joorfetz of Jackson has been promoted to acting State Law Librarian, the Mississippi Supreme Court announced. Joorfetz was recommended by the Mississippi Supreme Court on Nov. 15. She awaits confirmation by the Mississippi House and the Mississippi Senate. Mississippi Supreme Court Chief Justice Bill Waller Jr. said, “Clara Joorfetz has extensive experience in managing highly specialized legal as well as medical library collections. Her expertise will be an asset to the courts, the legal community and the public.” Joorfetz for the past five years has served as information services and government documents librarian for the State Library. Earlier in her career, she worked in reference services at the State Library for 11 years, from 1968 to 1979. Joorfetz also has extensive experience as a medical librarian. She worked for eight years as a librarian and library consultant for St. Dominic Hospital, five years as librarian at the Rowland Medical Library at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, and two years as head librarian at Baptist Medical Center. She also taught legal bibliography at the University of Mississippi for a year. Joorfetz earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Master of Library Science degree from the University of Mississippi. Joorfetz replaces Amanda Watson, who recently accepted a position at the Tulane University Law School Library in New Orleans. The State Librarian oversees the State Law Library, which is located in the Gartin Justice Building in Jackson. Known officially as the State Library, the law library is a specialized public library which provides legal research materials for the judiciary, state agencies, lawyers, students and the general public. #### |
